ABOUT GKZC NSS UNIT
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Units of Government Khawzawl College was established with 1 (one) Unit in the year 1992 with a view to create the relationship between the institution and the community. At present, the college has Two Units with 200 Volunteers under the guidance of Two Programme Officers (POs). The Programme Officers in charge of the NSS Units are:
- K. Ziona, Dept. of History
- K. Lalkulhpuia, Dept. of Political Science
All the services of NSS Units are performed through Regular Activities and Special Camping Programmes of the Unit. These services include Blood Donation, Tree Plantation, Awareness Campaign on- AIDS, Career guidance, Voluntary Blood Donation, Tobacco and Cancer Control, Self Defense Training, and Cleanliness Service include Social Work at Hospital Premises, Historical Monuments, Campus, and Streets and Bazaar.
During the past years, the NSS Unit of this College has selected several Villages as adopted Villages. These adopted Villages were given priority where the NSS volunteers and the Pos directly involved themselves for the development and upliftment of such villages. Within these areas, the unit has also undertaken several programs like – Literacy Campaign, Career Guidance, AIDS Awareness, Tobacco and Cancer Control, Cleanliness Drives, etc. Under the Government’s Programme of Plantation and Afforestation, the Unit planted a number of Saplings at different sites and places including the Campus.
One of the remarkable services of the unit is the voluntary blood donation for use in the hospital. While organizing the camp, the volunteers willingly donate their blood for patients in the hospital.
Keeping in view the needs and expectations of the community, the Unit has always been the endeavor of the college to render its services at its level best.
NSS Unit bagged 3rd Prize in Voluntary Blood Donation
The NSS Unit of Govt. Khawzawl College received 3rd prize in Voluntary Blood Donation among the institutions of Champhai District during the year 2018-2019. The Prize Distribution function cum Observance of World Blood Donor Day – 2019 was organized by Association for Voluntary Blood Donation, Champhai, at Govt. GM Higher Secondary School, Champhai on dated 14th June 2019. The Unit has donated 41 units in a series of two blood donation camps during 2018-2019.
NSS ACTIVITIES DURING 2019 – 2020
The NSS Units of this institution have undertaken many activities during the period from April, 2019 to March, 2020. The activities which we undertook are divided into Two Categories:-

- Special Camping
REGULAR ACTIVITY:-
1.June 2019: On 14th June 2019 World Blood Donation Day – 2019 Celebration was organized by Association for Voluntary Blood Donation, Champhai, at Govt. GM Higher Secondary School, Champhai. One Programme Officer from our Units attended.
2.July 2018: On 1st July, Cleanliness Work was Organized in the Campus. 70 Volunteers presented.
3. On 12th July, the Celebration of FIRST PRIZE AWARD (Overall Category) in Voluntary Blood Donation During 2018-19 cum Release of NSS DIRECTORY 2019-20 was organized at R.B. Mc Cabe Hall, Aijal Club, Aizawl. Mr. K.Ziona, Programme Officer attended
4. On 18th July, Orientation for NSS Volunteers was organized at College Multipurpose Hall under the chairmanship of Mr. Joseph Vanlalnghaka, Asst. Professor. Mr. K. Lalkulhpuia, Programme Officer, is the Resource Person. About 75 Volunteers attended.
5.August 2019: On 9th August, Cleanliness Work was organized at the Campus and Mualvawm Field, Khawzawl. 73 volunteers participated.
5. On 14th August, Cleanliness Work was organized at the Mualvawm Field by clearing of weeds in the surrounding Areas. 73 volunteers participated.
7.September 2019: On 24th September, in collaboration with NSS Units of Khawzawl Higher Secondary School, the Celebration of NSS Golden Jubilee (50th Anniversary) was organized on the Theme of “Tobacco and Cancer Contol” under the chairmanship of Mr. Kamdingliana Khiangte, NSS PO, KHSS at Zaingen YMA Hall, Khawzawl. Ms. T.Lalremruati, COTPA member cum Asst. Professor of Govt. Khawzawl College is the Resource Person.
8.October 2019: On 14th October, in collaboration with Khawzawl VC-II, Observation of Swaachhata Hi-Seva 2019(Plastics Waste Management Campaign) was organized under the chairmanship of Mr. K.Ziona, Programme Officer at Khawzawl Vengthar Bazaar. Ms. Laldingngheti, Asst. Professor, Govt. Khawzawl College is the Resource Person. After the function, Cleanliness Work was organized in the areas of Vengthar, Khawzawl. 75 Volunteers participated.
9. November 2019: On 4th November, Cleanliness Drive was organized at the Campus by clearing of weeds and cleaning of Classrooms and Offices. 70 Volunteers participated.
10. During 14th – 15th November, Mr. K.Lalkulhpuia participated in a “Two Day Workshop on Challenges and Opportunities in NSS in Mizoram” during the period from 14th to 15th November 2019 at State Guest House and Tourist Lodge, Chaltlang, Aizawl, Mizoram.
11. January 2020: On 24th January, Cleanliness work was organized at Mualvawm Field by cleaning weeds, collecting Plastics waste, and leveling off the ground. 67 volunteers participated.
12. February 2019: During 2nd to 6th February, selected 6 volunteers (Male – 3 & Female – 3) participated in the NSS NE Festival at Manipur University, Manipur held from 2nd to 6th February 2020
SPECIAL CAMPING
With the Sanctioning for the Account of MZU/2019 – 2020, Special Camping of First Installment, NSS Unit – I & II organized a joint Special Camping at Biate Town, Khawzawl District on the Theme “Tobacco and Cancer Control” during the period from 25th to 31st January 2020.
Recent Activities of NSS Units of GKZC
(Post – Covid19 Period)
- Knowledge about COVID-19 is essential for surviving from the pandemic that prevails over the country. Govt. Khawzawl College therefore is conducting a survey by using the Questionnaire Method to study the awareness of COVID-19 among the local people and the preventive measures taken by them in order to stay safe. NSS Unit of this College gave its contribution by collecting of data within Khawzawl Town on dated 5th May 2020.
- Following the programs given by the Office of Deputy Commissioner, Khawzawl, the NSS Unit of this College organized Cleanliness Work at JNV School, Khawzawl on dated 15th May 2020 by cleaning the buildings selected for Quarantine Centre. 55 NSS volunteers participated. And also on dated 22nd May 2020 Cleanliness Work was organized in the College to clean the Women/Girls Hostel Building selected for Quarantine Centre. 20 selected NSS volunteers participated.

- As per the resolution passed by the Meeting of NSS Programme Officers dated 7th July 2020 the NSS Unit of this College observed the Green Mizoram Day, 2020 on dated 17th July 2020 by planting trees (21 Saplings) within the College Campus. 10 selected NSS Volunteers and 5 Staff participated. Jt. Director HTE (QAC-cum-CDO) and Principal of these colleges also participated.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Govt. Khawzawl College has been functioning smoothly by maintaining its MOTO : “NOT ME BUT YOU” and its relationship with the community since it was set up in 1992. At present the total strength is two hundred (200) volunteers with two (2) Programme Officers, Namely:-
- K. Ziona, Associate Professor, Department of History.
- K. Lalkulhpuia, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science.
Mrs. PC. Rosangpuii, LDC has been entrusted to take care of the Office Files.
The NSS Units of this institution have undertaken many activities during the period from April, 2019 to March, 2020. The activities which we undertook are divided into Two Categories:-

REGULAR ACTIVITY:-
- Blood Donation :
On dated 11.03.2021, in collaboration with MZP, Khawzawl Headquarter, Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organized in the College Multi Purpose Hall. 85 Units were donated.
- Cleanliness Activities:
- On 15.5.2020, In response to the Order received from the Office of Addl. DC , Khawzawl District, Cleanliness Drive was organized at JNV School Khawzawl by cleaning the buildings selected for Quarantine Centre. 55 Volunteers participated
- On 22.5.2020, Cleanliness Drive was organized to clean the building of Women Hostel Govt. Khawzawl College selected for Quarantine Centre . 30 Volunteers and 1 PO participated.
- Important Days:
- Green Mizoram Day: The Green Mizoram Day, 2020 was observed on dated 17.07.2020 in the College Campus. Director HTE (QAC-cum-CDO) and Principal of this College also participated. The following Plants/Saplings obtained from Forest Department, Khawzawl were planted within the Campus:

- Fit India Freedom Run 2020:
FIT INDIA FREEDOM RUN 2020 was held on 15th September, 2020 from 6:00 AM in the College Campus. The route for the RUN was the distance between the Campus and Mualvawm Field via Khawzawl Vengthar (3 kms). 11 volunteers and 1 PO participated.
- World Consumer Rights Day 2021:
54 volunteers and 2 POs participated in the Observance of World Consumer Rights Day 2021 organized by Consumer Union, Khawzawl District Headquarter at Zaingen YMA Hall on 15th March, 2021.
- Awareness Campaign:
- Observance of Jan Andolan Campaign on Covid-19 by conducting Awareness Campaign and PLEDGE taking at the College Courtyard on 8th October, 2020 under the guidance of NSS Programme Officer, Mr. K. Lalkulhpuia, 11 volunteers participated.
- Awareness Campaign on Covid-19 Vaccination organized in the Multi-Purpose Hall, Govt. Khawzawl College, and Distribution of Pamphlets and Posters Sticking across the Khawzawl Town on dated 25th February, 2021. Dr. Lalliantluanga, Assistant Professor was the resource person. 55 volunteers and 2 PO participated.
- Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat 2020 -21 through Webinars:
Selected 4 volunteers and 1 Programme officer successfully participated in the Webinar Online Meeting on EBSB Bihar, Tripura and Mizoram held on dated 25th August, 26th October and 8th December, 2021.
- Meetings:
- On 2nd June, 2020 1 Programme Officer participated in the Meeting of NSS Programme Officers for the Observation of Green Mizoram day organized by NSS CELL, Mizoram 11th June was Scheduled for observing of Green Mizoram Day.
- On 12th June 2020, Training Cum Meeting of Programme Officers on Adoption of Village and Account Settlement organized by NSS CELL, Mizoram University. 1 Programme Officer participated.
- On 7th July, 2020, from 3:00 Pm a Meeting of NSS Programme Officer for Observation of Green Mizoram Day was held due to the Failure to observe Green Mizoram day on Scheduled dated. 17th July was scheduled again for observation of Green Mizoram Day, 2020.
- On 9th July, 2020, from 9:30 Am an Online Workshop on Swachhta Action Plan organized by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education & NSS Cell, MZU. 1 Programme Officer participated.
- Online mode Webinar on National Education Policy-2020 organized by Ministry of Education (Shikshak Parv) held on dated 16th September, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM. 2 Volunteers and 1 PO participated
- Webinar on National Education Policy – 2020 for NSS Programme Officers and Volunteers in Higher Educational Institutions in Mizoram Organized by NSS Cell, Mizoram held on 19th September, 2020 from 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM. 2 volunteers & 1 PO participated
- A meeting of District Task Force on COVID-19 Vaccination held on 24th February, 2021 at 1:00 PM in the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Khawzawl. NSS Programme Officer Mr. K. Lalkulhpuia participated and presented the paper “The fact on Covid Vaccine”.
- Online Comprehensive Discussion and Analysis of Draft National Youth Policy 2021 with the Stakeholders organized by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development on dated 31.03.2021, 1 PO participated.
- Others:
